My Cheerleader, My Rock, My Coach, and My Friend

To say that I love my midwife is nothing short of an understatement. She unselfishly gave me the support and encouragement that I needed to confidently obtain a wonderful natural healthy birth for my daughter. After having been through a very difficult birth experience with my first child, as a direct consequence of multiple unnecessary medical interventions, I knew that there had to be a better way to experience birth. Birth is a privilege and meant to be embraced as natural and not to be feared or treated as an illness. I wanted to know the joy of championing through labor naturally and being able to hold my baby in my arms knowing that I gave her my best in bringing her into the world drug-free. My midwife both listened to my wishes regarding my birth plan and embraced them whole-heartedly. She believed in me and helped me realize my dream of a drug-free birth. My midwife graciously endured multiple false labor calls, even some during the wee hours of the morning! Her reassurance and confidence was just what I needed towards the end of my pregnancy, which as all mothers know can be some of the most grueling months! When it came time for my labor to really begin my midwife was my cheerleader, my rock, my coach, and my friend. She helped me see it through to the very end; through every tear and drop of sweat she stood with me, all the while saying— “You can do this. You CAN do this!” I can confidently say that without her love and guidance I would not have been able to realize my dream of a natural birth for my baby girl, and I am forever lovingly indebted to her.
