Moments of truth are personal. They happen in different ways for everyone, and for different reasons. Have you ever wondered about the way other people approach their health and their care? Below, check out stories from real people like you about their experiences with the US health care system and with midwifery care. You can also share your own here.
My Moment of Truth
I was 15 years old when I first became interested in the whole process of getting pregnant and giving birth. As I started doing more research in my free time, I discovered midwifery. It was fascinating to read how dedicated midwives are to their patients and how different a birth can be if you do it with a midwife. From that moment on, I did all of my projects, presentations and essays on midwifery. I was excited to tell everyone about how important midwives are and that they should consider one when they become pregnant in the future. Right now I am 18 years old and I am a freshman in college. I plan to get my Bachelor's in nursing and then get my Master's so I can become a CNM. Even though I'm still young and sometimes women look at me like "you don't know what you're saying/doing," I try to share my passion with them and hope they will listen to me. I've already convinced one of my aunts to give birth with a CNM and it was a wonderful experience for everyone, including me because she let me stay with her and see everything. The CNM was wonderful and she talked me through the whole process, making me fall in love even more with the aspect of being a midwife. I can't wait to finish school (even though I just started) and use my skills to help women have the birth they want!
